2026 Policy Forum: From Crisis to Connection: Reimagining Care for the Hardest to Reach

Homeless Services United convened nonprofit leaders, clinicians, government partners, and advocates for From Crisis to Connection: Reimagining Care for the Hardest to Reach, a policy forum focused on improving care for New Yorkers experiencing the most complex forms of homelessness.

Held at the William and Anita Newman Conference Center at Baruch College, the forum brought together leaders across housing, healthcare, behavioral health, and the criminal justice system to examine how services can work together more effectively to support individuals with high-acuity needs.

The program featured opening remarks from New York City Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Dr. Helen Arteaga, a keynote address from Dr. Van Yu, Chief Medical Officer of the Center for Urban Community Services and Janian Medical Care, and a panel discussion with leaders from government, healthcare, housing, and peer-led services.

The forum created space for candid discussion about the challenges facing providers and policymakers, as well as opportunities to strengthen coordination across systems serving New Yorkers experiencing homelessness.
